Shoulder Dystocia - Other Factors

There a variety of other factors that increase the risk for Shoulder Dystocia, they include:
  1. The pregnancy going beyond term also called a post-date pregnancy;
  2. Previous delivery of a large baby;
  3. Excessive weight gain during the pregnancy;
  4. A prolonged labor;
  5. Maternal Obesity;
  6. A mothers pelvis that is smaller then necessary to allow passage of the baby’s shoulders. (in this circumstance even a small baby can suffer from a shoulder dystocia)
Each of these factors along with many more can increase the chances of a shoulder dystocia.
