Social Security Disability
Social Security Disability is a Federal disability program for injured workers who, because of their disabilities, are totally disabled from all substantial and gainful activity. The Social Security Administration considers benefits in those cases where an injured worker can show that they have been disabled for one year, or where they can show that the medical evidence suggests the disability will extend beyond one year. A person’s disability under the Social Security Disability system does not have to be the result of a work injury. Rather, the disability can be the result of any medical condition or injury sustained by the claimant.

Once a claimant becomes disabled, it is important to immediately begin obtaining the necessary medical documentation of disability. Should the prognosis for disability be long-term, filing a Social Security Disability claim will be necessary.
